Family Therapy and Caregiver Support
Parents, caregivers, and families often see Dr. Kendra for help with problems and concerns within their families. These often include concerns about a child or adolescent’s behavior and well-being, family conflict and relationships, the impact of chronic illness on the family, grief and loss, and adoption or foster care.
Family interventions provided by Dr. Kendra include caregiver/parenting support, family therapy, and parent-child therapy. Her interventions often focus on helping parents and caregivers understand the needs and factors that underlie challenging and concerning behavior. Additionally, she helps parents and caregivers use their parenting activities and relationships to support wellness, learning, and development. At times, other therapies (e.g., individual, couples) for adults or children may be recommended.
During sessions with families, Dr. Kendra aims to ensure all family members feel understood and are aware of what sessions will include and focus on. For some families, only parents are seen by Dr. Kendra. For other families, parents and children/youth are seen separately or together. Dr. Kendra has specialized training in attachment theory and Emotionally Focused Therapy.
